  • The Painted Lady Feminist Museum is pleased to present "Big Politics, Little Paintings. A Look at Women in Diplomacy, Inspired by Madeleine Albright by Jaime Hesper"

  • Sounds like a great show! This might be the place to hang out after we see the show!

  • Let's not delay, can't wait to see what J. Hesper has been working on!

  • Lets sit on the couch and read the artist statement. "The first female Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, has inspired this collection of miniature paintings. Her life, education, work and diplomacy have inspired and changed women’s lives around the world. A constant champion of human rights and the empowerment of women, Madeleine provided the perfect catalyst for a look at contemporary politics and the state of the world. The portraits in this series are of women noted by Madeleine in her writing as inspiring, friends, or trailblazers of politics. The unique power, set-backs, and controversy surrounding these women have proven valuable in learning to navigate global politics and cultural attitudes towards women in power. The collage pieces are inspired by the jewelry Madeleine Albright wore during her many diplomatic assignments for the United Nations and State Department. As fearless and outspoken as she is, she often augmented her attitude toward the subject or leader she was visiting with an eclectic collection of pins and brooches. Her tactic caught on, and every time she met with Russian President Putin, he enquired about the meaning of her pin. The remaining pieces and QR code installation are inspired by her early life, personality, and unique ability to empower women and promote democracy across the globe. An eternal student, successful professor, and established world leader: Madeleine Albright’s life and work are endlessly fascinating. Her memoirs and writing provide an intimate look at her beginnings in World War II era Czechoslovakia to her navigating the intricacies of foreign policy. She continues to assist in the development of U.S. state department policy and keeps a watchful eye on the rights of women throughout the world."
